Two TLs that recently genrefied the fiction sections of their libraries answer the Who? What? When? Where? and How?s of it all. From their two different experiences and approaches we hope you will leave with an outline of what the genrefication process could look like and an idea of where to start at your school.

I have been in the teacher librarian role in Surrey School District for 6 years. I taught in the primary classroom before that. I have a MEd in Literacy Education from the University of British Columbia. I am interested in learning commons design and story-telling through video games. I almost exclusively read middle school fiction during the school year.
The kids call me Madame, but my real name is Emily. I'm the teacher-librarian at Ecole Laronde Elementary, a little French Immersion school in my fourth year. I did my B. Ed at SFU in a French module, and completed my diploma in teacher librarianship at UBC. I love working with my colleagues and look forward to linking literacy to all the cooking, coding, and woodworking projects that come my way.
