Equity-Trauma-Informed Teaching in Elementary Classrooms

Students with trauma often present as an enigma to school personnel. This workshop aims to demystify the behaviours and psychology underlying trauma by highlighting how behaviour is communication, and may also be the result of trauma-altered brain structure. Approaching trauma in the classroom from a curious mindset will help educators in recognizing trauma-related behaviours, and understanding how these behaviours are adaptions to have student psychological needs met, as well as supporting traumatized students in learning how to better regulate, communicate and relate to others all while being better able to learn.
